Notes: Similar to vintage wine
there are Gibson Archtops that are outstanding. Making it's debut in 1922,
the Gibson L-5 was created by the legendary Lloyd Loar. Without a doubt, the
most desired vintage L-5 are the Loar era instruments and from around 1939
to 1969. After this period some years of average quality followed with only
few exceptions. Finally in 1986, Gibson was reorganized and
they have come back to its good old tradition. The results
are one-of-a-kind beautiful guitars resuming seamless to the
quality of long past times.
Materials: 17“ wide body with handcarved bookmatched fine
grained solid spruce top, highly figured solid five-piece tiger flamed
maple neck with walnut center stripe, highly flamed solid maple back
and sides, pointed-end ebony fretboard, nut width 1 11/16“, 20
frets, pearl single block position markers, flower pot peghead inlay,
multi-ply white / black binding, bound f-holes, solid ebony bridge.
Hardware: Classic '57 Humbucker Pickup, tailpiece with model
name engraved on insert, ABR-1 bridge, ebony base with pearl tie
inlays, “Custom L-5“ engraved truss rod cover, quintuple-bound pickguard,
Schaller M6 tuners, with Certificate of Authenticity.
Facts: Made 2003 in Nashville in a beautiful, translucent
wine red finish. The label is signed by Master James Hutchins.
The Wes Montgomery Model should not strictly be regarded as
a reissue from the mid-sixties but more as a modern version
of the original L-5CES with one pickup. The idea of Wes to forgo
of the bridge pickup has a tremendous benefit as several
drillings in the top can be avoided and especially the area near
the bridge is crucial for the transmission of the string vibration.
Condition: The guitar is in as new condition. The frets
are as new. Absolute collector's condition. The finish,
hardware and everything else on this guitar is all original.
The tuners work smooth and perfectly, no bent shafts.
The entire binding is tight to the body.
Playability: Action is low and the neck profile is the
comfty rounded C. The neck is buzz-free, straight and it plays
very smooth without any effort.
Tone: The sound of this L-5 wine red can be compared with the
expressions used to describe the taste of a great wine: Perfectly balanced
with an absolutly clean tone, unmistakable character, very fine and expanded
bouquet with notes of cherry, yet harmonic with an elegant finesse.
Case: Original hardshell case with red plush interior in
as new condition. All latches and hinges work fine.
Setup: This instrument is strung with flatwound strings
(.013-.054). The guitar will accommodate lighter gauge strings,
according to your preference. The entire guitar is inspected,
fingerboard and bridge oiled, body and neck cleaned and hand polished.
To Summarize: Scientists are claiming that red wine has life prolonging properties.
Whether these properties do apply while playing this wine red L-5 Wes Montgomery probably
nobody can tell for sure. As a matter-of-fact, one has to admit that an exquisite archtop
can only get better in the course of time just as with a noble wine.
