The New Yorker Model

Notes: John D'Angelico, born in New York 1905, learned how to make guitars from the age of 9 and created guitars independently at the age of 27. He made guitars for many musicians through out the years. By 1964, the total amount of guitars he made counted up to 1,164 pieces. New Yorker, Excel and Style A, B were the basic models and the New Yorker was THAT guitar everybody wanted to play.

In 1988 Mr. Jerry Barberine, President of D'Angelico, signed an agreement with Mr. Hidesato Shiino from the Vestax Corporation to start a re-issue of the D'Angelico New Yorker.

Materials: 17" wide and 3" deep body with a solid bookmatched X-braced Spruce top, highly flamed Maple back and sides, three-piece figured Maple neck, pointed-end Ebony fretboard with pearl slashed-block inlays, nut width 1 11/16", scale lenghth 25.5" and 14/22 frets, 7-ply ivoroid body binding on top, triple bound back, headstock, fingerboard and f-holes, polished bone nut, solid Ebony bridge with compensated saddle, base plate with rectangular pearl inlays.

Hardware: Original floating JS style minihumbucker, volume & tone controls pickguard mounted, gold-plated D'Angelico stairstep tailpiece without hinge, gold-plated Grover Imperial tuners, stairstep truss rod cover.

Facts: Made in Japan in the year 2004 and the Label inside the body is signed by Luthier Hidesato Shiino of the Vestax Corporation.

Condition: The guitar, although being 8 years old, is still as new and mint. It has always been taken care of very well.

Playability: The frets are smoothly crowned and polished for easy playing and everything feels really sleek, just like a glove. The neck profile is a very comfy C. The double acting truss rod allows for feeler gauge adjustment for smooth low string action and accurate neck relief.

Tone: The carved spruce top and maple back and sides create an exceptionally warm sound that projects well both acoustically and amplified. The tone is absolutely balanced and exquisite with just the right amount of highs and lows throughout the entire fretboard.

Case: Original D'Angelico Deluxe case with faux alligator leather and six latches.

Setup: This instrument is strung with round wound strings (.012-.054).

To Summarize: The elegant styling and playability with its balanced tone give it a distinct musical personality and nowadays the New Yorker Model is still highly demanded by players and collectors alike just as in the good old days. Through these meticulously built archtops the spirit and beauty of the legendary originals live on at a very affordable price.
